I just spent a glorious few weeks off line and IN my life.  I needed a break to connect with my family and with myself.

What I didn’t take a break from was my lifestyle.

The full transcript is available below and as we head into the final 6 weeks of summer here on the west coast I hope you consider this powerful mindset shift and reflect on what healthy eating represents in your life.

I take vacations from my life all the time, but I never take a vacation from my lifestyle, because the truth is regardless of if I’m on vacation or at home I’m not on or off any plan.

My life is a series of choices.

I choose what I want to eat based on how I want to feel and  how food is going to make my body feel.

Is it going to support my emotional state?

Is it going to support how I want to feel in my skin?

There is no on or off for me.

When I go on vacation, the same thing holds true.

I still eat healthy and I still get to choose to get extra things if I want them.

If I want to have ice cream, I can have ice cream.

If I decide I want to have a margarita, I can have a margarita.

It’s simply a series of choices.

What I see happen often with clients, is this notion of:

I’m going on vacation and it’s just going to be a big food party.

Fair enough, that is a choice that you are allowed to make.

but  would you take a weeks’ vacation and not shower?

Would you decide you are no longer going to brush your teeth or take care of your personal hygiene?

Probably not.

So if you start to think about food as your physical and emotional hygiene for your body, what you put into it matters.

When you step into taking ownership for your choices regardless if you’re on vacation or not, your relationship with food will really shift.

More importantly, what I’d like you to look at is what’s under your thought process.

Is there an element of “healthy eating isn’t fun and when I’m on vacation I want to be having fun”.

You may have an unconscious mindset around what healthy eating represents to you and what eating on vacation represents to you.

When you are dealing with a mindset that is focused on lack or scarcity or deprivation, you are going to find yourself stuck in that diet cycle time and time again.

It becomes less about the choices and more about your deeper mindset  around what healthy eating, healthy food and healthy lifestyle represents to you.

So there’s some food for thought to you, I know many of us are starting out on summer vacation.

I’m here in BC, Canada and summer is a beautiful time of year.

There’s a lot of people out camping, lots different goodies, lots backyard barbeques and alcohol.

Make your choices consciously.

Own them, let go of judgement, let go of guilt.

Just make them from a conscious place and make the ones that feel best for you.

Don’t judge them, there’s no good there’s no bad, but really think about your mindset around vacation and healthy eating and food in general because when you shift that, some permanent shifts will happen.

Not only with your relationship with food but also the relationship you’re having with your body.
