EPISODE 320: Breaking the Anxiety Loop: From Bracing for Disaster to Expecting the Best

Client Stories, Confidence, Emotions, Guest Feature, Mindset, Podcasts, Transformation

Episode Summary: Join Lisa for a powerful live coaching session with client “Sarah” as they tackle one of the most common patterns Lisa sees in high-achievers: internally generating stress and anxiety before anything bad has even happened. In this intimate behind-the-scenes look at coaching in action, you’ll witness a complete transformation from catastrophic thinking to anticipating the best.

What You’ll Learn:

The Anxiety Trap That’s Keeping You Stuck

  • How anticipating disaster actually robs you of energy and joy
  • The difference between trying to control outcomes vs. trusting yourself to handle whatever comes

The Body-Mind Connection

  • Why your brain might say “I’m fine” while your body stays in fight-or-flight
  • Simple nervous system regulation techniques you can use anywhere
  • The power of breath work to signal safety to your body

From Survival to Thriving: A Step-by-Step Approach

  • Sarah’s personalized action plan for overcoming anxiety patterns
  • The HALT check-in: Managing Hungry, Angry/Anxious, Lonely, Tired
  • How to shift from “I’ll be okay” to “I can anticipate the best”

The Paradox of High-Achievers:

Lisa reveals why her most successful clients often struggle with this pattern: “My clients are all survivors. They’ve always landed on their feet… Yet they’re the same people that fundamentally are afraid they’re not going to be okay if something happens.”

Practical Tools You Can Use Today:

The Pre-Event Reset:

  • Take 2 minutes before challenging situations
  • Practice visualization of your ideal outcome
  • Use grounding techniques (feet on floor, name 5 things you can see)

Daily Evidence Collection:

  • Journal about good things that happened each day
  • Notice how many catastrophized scenarios never occurred
  • Build a mental database of “everything working out for me”

Breath Work Basics:

  • Box breathing patterns
  • Slow exhales to activate parasympathetic nervous system
  • Use breath awareness to return to presence

The Worthiness Component:

Sarah’s breakthrough moment: “It’s okay for me to anticipate the best… because I’m worthy of it as opposed to I need to earn it.”

If this episode resonated with you, you might be ready for the kind of deep, transformational work Lisa does with her clients. Many successful people find themselves stuck in patterns of internal stress generation despite having “everything figured out” on the outside.

So if you've ever noticed that you create stress about things that haven't even happened yet, this episode is for you.

00:01:07:09 - 00:01:32:21
Lisa
So my client, Sarah, came to our session realizing that she was internally generating anxiety before opening work emails before texting her ex, even during our call when she was completely safe. I watched her holding her breath, bracing for impact That wasn't coming. And here's what's so wild is Sarah is a survivor. Like most of my clients, she always lands on her feet.

00:01:32:24 - 00:02:02:00
Lisa
Yet she's the same person who fundamentally believes she won't be okay if something goes wrong. And this probably sounds familiar. So in this episode, you're going to hear the exact moment Sarah shifts from bracing to breathing from. I need to anticipate disaster to I've got this No theory, no fluff, just real coaching. I'm breaking the anxiety loop that keeps so many of you stuck in fight or flight, even when you're safe.

00:02:02:02 - 00:02:17:08
Lisa
So if you're tired of your body betraying your brain, if you know logically you're fine but still feel like disasters just around the corner. This episode is for you. So enjoy and I will catch you on the next episode.

00:02:17:08 - 00:02:42:00
Lisa
Hey. Hey, everybody. Thanks for joining me for another episode of the Full Frontal Living Podcast. And today, I've got one of my clients with me, Sarah, not not her real name, but we're going under an alias today, which is totally fine to do because, you know, I like to protect people's privacies as well. I, I respect that. And we want to be able to, on this episode, go deep with whatever Sarah needs to talk about.

00:02:42:00 - 00:03:09:13
Lisa
So these episodes, we're recording them as my commitment to allowing people to see behind the curtain of what it looks like to be working with me and what's possible when you allow yourself to be supported and have your your deeper questions answered. So Sarah, I almost called you by your other name. So, Sarah, what do you have for me today?

00:03:09:13 - 00:03:15:00
Lisa
What are we diving into for this episode? What's your question?

00:03:15:02 - 00:03:34:14
Sara
Well, my question is I seem to be internally generating a sense of stress and I've noticed it popping up in lots of different areas. Can I just ask.

00:03:34:19 - 00:03:43:13
Lisa
You, like, what does that what does that mean when you say that you're internally generating a sense of stress?

00:03:43:16 - 00:04:31:05
Sara
So I was going to work and a couple of days like the couple of days before, had been not great days at work. And so I had this sense of apprehension and a bit of anxiety around it. And I also noticed that I'm going through a separation at the moment. And I, I seem to be almost generating that same sense whenever I go to respond to my ex or rage stuff that he sent me and even.

00:04:31:07 - 00:04:45:06
Lisa
Just to pursue it. So you basically saying that before you even open a email, read an email, you're already stirring up anxiety in yourself before anything is even happened?

00:04:45:09 - 00:04:47:10
Sara
Yeah. Yeah.

00:04:47:12 - 00:04:49:16
Lisa
Do you notice you holding your breath right now?

00:04:49:19 - 00:04:52:06
Sara
Yeah. Yeah.

00:04:52:09 - 00:05:15:21
Lisa
Can we just. Can we just pop and take a moment? Right. Because I'm literally watching you. I'm watching you. Just. Yeah, Hold your breath. So I want you to just, like, take a deep breath, drop into your body. Because what I'm seeing is you're. You're actually generating the same anxiety on this call, and nothing's happening. We're just having a conversation.

00:05:15:23 - 00:05:17:08
Sara
Yes.

00:05:17:11 - 00:05:20:01
Lisa
And we've had a lot of conversations like this.

00:05:20:03 - 00:05:21:12
Sara
Yeah.

00:05:21:15 - 00:05:24:17
Lisa
So you're safe here.

00:05:24:19 - 00:05:30:17
Sara
And.

00:05:30:19 - 00:05:39:00
Lisa
This has been a bit of a pattern in your life to hold your breath and to brace yourself for incoming disaster.

00:05:39:02 - 00:05:49:19
Sara
Yeah. Yeah.

00:05:49:21 - 00:05:59:05
Lisa
Do you have any evidence that you need to brace yourself for incoming disaster?

00:05:59:07 - 00:06:20:10
Sara
I think maybe the pattern is that if I can anticipate the possible disasters and brace myself for them, then I can try and, you know, work how to achieve more to avoid them.

00:06:20:12 - 00:06:47:08
Lisa
Right. So what you're telling me is, if you can get yourself into anticipating disaster, then if disaster strikes, you'll avoid all human feelings of like feeling bad because this is what we do, right? This is why we create these. Like, this is why we catastrophize things because we're trying to figure out how we can shield ourselves. Because if I know what's coming, then I can protect myself from what's coming, and I'll be okay.

00:06:47:10 - 00:06:51:16
Sara
Mm.

00:06:51:18 - 00:07:08:17
Lisa
But for all the times you've metastasized, how many things have actually happened that you've metastasized? And did you avoid the feeling bad?

00:07:08:20 - 00:07:28:13
Sara
How many things happened? I think whether they happened or not, I wasn't really able to enjoy them because I'd spent so long thinking about the bad thing that even when the good thing happened, it would almost be a relief that the bad thing didn't happen.

00:07:28:18 - 00:07:48:18
Lisa
Exactly right. It takes a lot of time and energy when we're catastrophizing things. And I remember I once had a client. She was a she was a real like, I need to know, we play out these scenarios again because we're trying to create certainty because as humans, we don't like uncertainty, even though everything in our life is uncertain to us, that that death is the only certainty.

00:07:48:21 - 00:08:14:06
Lisa
And even with that, we're uncertain about because you never know what's going to happen. Knock wood, Not for a long time. So we do this in order to protect ourselves, right? We're trying to create a level of certainty because if if I'm certain of the outcome, then I know I'll be okay. And but the more powerful place to work from is knowing that regardless of what the outcome is, you're going to be okay.

00:08:14:09 - 00:08:36:23
Lisa
And we've been working together for a long time. And this is a pattern you've been unraveling. And just sitting with that in the place of like, okay, it doesn't matter what comes through on this email from my ex, what comes through from my work before I check in when I'm sensing that anxiety in my body. Right. Acknowledging I'm sensing that anxiety.

00:08:36:23 - 00:08:50:13
Lisa
What's causing that anxiety? Because I'm already preparing myself for the disaster. And what if. What if everything's okay? And even if it's not okay, I will always be okay.

00:08:50:16 - 00:09:12:04
Sara
Yeah, I've I've been like I've definitely had awareness around the anxiety that I create and I have been trying to, you know, coach myself through it and acknowledge, acknowledge it.

00:09:12:06 - 00:09:41:26
Sara
It really does seem to be over time. And I don't know if it's because I'm just at this elevated level of or stuff at the moment that I don't know. I feel like that's a bit yeah, I don't like framing it like that either. But even like with the kids this morning when childcare fell through, you know, even before that I had, I kind of hoped that it wouldn't end, you know.

00:09:41:26 - 00:10:10:08
Sara
So I'd kind of anticipated that maybe the family member would say that they're not able to look after the kids. And then, you know, and then it happened. And I like, I am okay. But I guess that yeah, I guess I'm finding it quite hard to I can cognitively think I'm going to be okay, but my body doesn't always feel okay.

00:10:10:08 - 00:10:14:01
Sara
My body still feels stressed. There's a couple.

00:10:14:01 - 00:10:26:03
Lisa
Things here, right? We we can perpetuate habits within ourselves. So every time you tolerate that anxiety, you're signaling to your body, This is the pattern I need you to hold.

00:10:26:06 - 00:10:26:22
Sara
Yeah, And.

00:10:26:22 - 00:10:28:16
Lisa
That starts to create a habit.

00:10:28:19 - 00:10:29:12
Sara
Yeah.

00:10:29:15 - 00:10:35:22
Lisa
The second thing is, wherever we're holding our attention, we're going to get more of that.

00:10:35:24 - 00:10:36:13
Sara
Yeah.

00:10:36:15 - 00:10:48:16
Lisa
I can't even tell you how many times I thought, like, you know, about something on my calendar happening. And then, of course, it happens, because that's where I was holding my attention. Or if I'm holding my attention on like, God, I don't want that bad thing to happen.

00:10:48:18 - 00:10:49:08
Sara
Yeah.

00:10:49:11 - 00:10:52:01
Lisa
That's typically when the bad thing will happen.

00:10:52:04 - 00:10:52:13
Sara
Yeah.

00:10:52:14 - 00:11:14:20
Lisa
Now it's really important also is like, what is the story that I'm telling myself around the outcome that I want here? What would be possible if you were telling yourself, You know what? It's always the best. Things are always coming to me. Everything is happening for me, for my growth. And I am going to be okay because that that uncertainty versus the certainty.

00:11:14:23 - 00:11:15:21
Sara
And.

00:11:15:23 - 00:11:43:20
Lisa
The certainty that everybody is searching for is when you trust yourself to know that you're going to be okay. And you tell your body, I've got you right words right now you're treating anxiety like let's just say your anxieties like a little child and you're letting it run around and have dominance over you instead of coming in like the wise parent and saying anxiety, I see you.

00:11:43:22 - 00:12:06:03
Lisa
I understand why you're here. You're wanting to protect me from getting hurt. But I, as the wise adult parent in this relationship, I've got you and we're going to be okay regardless of what that email says, regardless of what that person on the street does, regardless of if it's raining or sunny or whatever the political climate is. Okay?

00:12:06:06 - 00:12:47:27
Lisa
The certainty that we're looking for is in me, the certainty you're looking for. Sarah is in you. And that's so much of this work is the management of the emotions that we're feeling. MM Is this true or is this a habit? And like you said, your body, you know, your mind in your body. I know a lot of people listening will, will get this because our bodies can be in a state of fight or flight where our brains are like, we're good, we're good, but your body's your body doesn't believe it's good and it's we have to start marrying those two saying, I've got you, you're safe and learning how to regulate your nervous system

00:12:47:27 - 00:13:00:04
Lisa
in those moments, whether it's breathwork, I've done episodes on this. You can do like candle gazing, simply putting your feet on the floor and looking around the room. So your camera. I see a picture.

00:13:00:07 - 00:13:00:12
Sara
To.

00:13:00:12 - 00:13:02:23
Lisa
Bring yourself back to presence.

00:13:02:26 - 00:13:04:00
Sara
Mm.

00:13:04:03 - 00:13:15:24
Lisa
So that you can be with that anxiety in a different way from a present moment and from the truth. Is anything bad going to happen if I open that email?

00:13:15:26 - 00:13:17:12
Sara
Mm.

00:13:17:15 - 00:13:23:11
Lisa
Maybe. But is it anything that I'm not going to be able to figure out how to handle? Probably not.

00:13:23:13 - 00:13:26:09
Sara
Mm hmm. Yeah.

00:13:26:12 - 00:13:33:04
Lisa
Right. So it's retraining your body to anticipate good versus anticipate bad.

00:13:33:07 - 00:13:36:02
Sara
Mm hmm.

00:13:36:05 - 00:14:04:23
Sara
I think I've. I think I've. The work I've done means I don't anticipate, like, the worst, and I can almost be, like, neutral, but I'm fine. Like, I have noticed and lots of aspects of life that I do find it hard to step into like the best or this is, you know, I can be, I guess, you know, example that springs to mind is my body.

00:14:04:25 - 00:14:45:12
Sara
And I am like very physical and I have always basically been pretty cut and, you know, I remember going to different events where I'd be all dressed in a nice gown and he would be like, Oh my God, look at your guns. And I would just be like, Oh, come on. Anyway. And so for a long time I, I was happy my body was like that because it let me do some amazing things and I, I also, you know, I guess I wished it was more stereotypically feminine.

00:14:45:14 - 00:15:11:29
Sara
But anyway, I so there were parts that I hated for ages. And then I've, I've definitely gotten to a really good place in terms of appreciating and, and really liking my body. And I would love to yeah, I would love to move to a place of really, really loving it and really being like, it's an amazing feminine body, however it looks.

00:15:11:29 - 00:15:48:18
Sara
And so maybe from what you said before, like, yeah, I've, I've kind of noticed that as well that I think I'm at a place where I can when I feel the anxiety, I can reason with myself that I can handle the bad stuff. Or maybe that the bad stuff isn't going to throw me. And that shift into, well, like there are some amazing things that could happen today.

00:15:48:21 - 00:16:18:24
Sara
And this is all unfolding in the most beautiful way. Like this is it that feels like a bit of a difference. Yeah, that that doesn't feel married up at the moment From that I can that I can feel this kind of anxiety and I you know Oh, probably not I'll probably be holding my breath and not recognize. So then to get from that place to like this is all you know, I can handle it.

00:16:18:24 - 00:16:30:04
Sara
I'm okay. I've got it. Nothing's going to derail me because I've got this. My body's amazing. Like, do you know what I mean? Like this. That shift feels.

00:16:30:04 - 00:16:45:22
Lisa
It's baby steps, right? So I think one of the mistakes that often that that people can make is they try and go from point A to point B, like, I don't want to feel anxiety. I want to. And that's too big of a leap. It's what are the baby steps in between? Can we move to a place of neutrality?

00:16:45:24 - 00:17:09:19
Lisa
So even if we were you to use the example of your body, Right. Okay, well, what does it look like for me to stay neutral about my body? And then what does it look like to shift more into a place of love and compassion for it and redefining femininity? So coming back to the catastrophizing, it's like, I don't expect you to show up and be at peace with every email.

00:17:09:22 - 00:17:24:17
Lisa
But what what are the steps? What is the strategy that you can use as soon as an email or something comes in to get you to that place of feeling more neutral and more? What needs to happen here for me to anticipate the best?

00:17:24:20 - 00:17:24:29
Sara
Mhm.

00:17:25:02 - 00:17:29:27
Lisa
No, I'm going to be okay regardless. What are the steps you're going to run yourself through.

00:17:30:00 - 00:17:33:24
Sara
Yeah. Yeah.

00:17:33:27 - 00:17:37:29
Lisa
I'm actually asking you what do you think those steps.

00:17:38:02 - 00:17:38:26
Sara
Are.

00:17:38:29 - 00:17:41:26
Lisa
Not going to let you off the hook that easy.

00:17:41:29 - 00:18:18:18
Sara
Yeah. What needs to happen for me to anticipate the best thing that resonates? I think I each night I find evidence that I'm okay and that it's working. So I think continuing to do that and really making sure I'm embodying that as I journal on it, I think taking a minute or two before I go into work, I back to work.

00:18:18:18 - 00:18:39:15
Sara
So I'm packing my bike and then sitting for a couple of minutes to yeah, to calm my nervous system into Yeah, I guess kind of manifesto visualize the best.

00:18:39:17 - 00:18:41:23
Lisa
How you want your day to look.

00:18:41:25 - 00:19:24:04
Sara
Yeah. And, and then I think like on a practical level, making sure that I have lunch like at my break rather than just getting caught up in jobs. And again, I think going outside, it's middle of winter here, so it's not always easy, but I think going outside with lunch to yet again, I think just calm myself down and remind myself it's going to be okay.

00:19:24:06 - 00:19:34:23
Sara
And yeah, and I guess not even just remind myself it's going to be okay, but it's okay to anticipate the best. What statement is scary, actually.

00:19:34:25 - 00:19:45:03
Lisa
Because you're more used to you've trained your body to anticipate the worst. So it's always bracing and bracing that you were a small child.

00:19:45:06 - 00:20:09:24
Sara
Yeah, I think it's a like a worthiness and kind of does even this thing like that. I could just I could think that it's okay for me to anticipate the best, like give myself permission to do that because yeah, because I'm wary of it as opposed to I need to earn it. Right?

00:20:09:27 - 00:20:20:15
Lisa
Everybody is born worthy. We don't have to earn our worthiness. But so many of us learned that we did, or the belief was that we did.

00:20:20:17 - 00:20:21:13
Sara
Yeah.

00:20:21:16 - 00:20:38:22
Lisa
But this is a really good step by step process because you're understanding, Oh, it's not about the email, it's not about the content of the email. It's not about what may or may not happen at work. It's what is the underlying belief in me that showing up and the underlying belief is that I'm not going to be okay.

00:20:38:24 - 00:20:40:24
Sara
And.

00:20:40:27 - 00:20:46:28
Lisa
So I have to anticipate what might come at me so that I can make sure I'm okay.

00:20:47:00 - 00:20:50:10
Sara
Hmm. Yeah.

00:20:50:13 - 00:21:19:29
Lisa
So even these these simple steps you put together, this is Sarah's plan of how Sarah is going to support herself. Feeling better every day and anticipating that things are going to be okay, that you are going to be okay. And you brought up a really important point that I wanted to just remind everybody who's listening, which is making sure you're properly rested, you're properly fed, that you've done whatever it is you need to do to connect with yourself.

00:21:19:29 - 00:21:46:16
Lisa
So talk about it in terms of the acronym HALT. Hungry, Angry or Anxious? Lonely, tired. Right. So you got to name what you're feeling. Managing that as the foundational levels of what you need to do to show up. Because so often so much of these anxiety and catastrophizing, it's way worse if you're mentally right. So we can talk to context all we want around.

00:21:46:16 - 00:22:07:09
Lisa
Like what's the underlying story? I'm not going to be okay. I'm not going to be safe. I need to anticipate danger. We can talk about that till the cows come home. But part of the strategy around overriding that belief is handling the foundational pieces of what it looks like for you two to show up as your best.

00:22:07:11 - 00:22:08:02
Sara
Yeah.

00:22:08:05 - 00:22:12:22
Lisa
Okay. And then this is beautiful. Looking for evidence of every day.

00:22:12:24 - 00:22:13:01
Sara
Of.

00:22:13:01 - 00:22:32:11
Lisa
All the good things that have happened to you. You talk to any human, we're going to have a stockpile of amazing things that have happened, and you're gonna have a stockpile of things that didn't happen or that weren't so amazing. You're going to have a stockpile of things that you catastrophize about never happened. You're going to have a stockpile of things that you never once thought about global pandemic.

00:22:32:11 - 00:22:46:04
Lisa
Anybody that happened. All right. I had a client once. She spent all this time catastrophizing, and I looked at her and said, did you ever spend even 2 minutes thinking about the impact a global pandemic would have on your business?

00:22:46:06 - 00:22:47:10
Sara
No.

00:22:47:12 - 00:23:15:06
Lisa
But she spent hours and hours worrying about other stuff that didn't ever impact her. But it cost her energy, cost her time, cost her emotional wellness. This is what catalyst is. So we're doing it as a way to protect ourselves. But what we're actually doing is hurting ourselves because we are robbing ourselves of our energetic resources. So looking for evidence that everything is always working out for you.

00:23:15:06 - 00:23:30:12
Lisa
And I tell myself, as you know, I've been through a lot of different things. I always tell myself things are working out for me, even when it looks like they're not working out for me, even when I can't yet find the what's what's the lesson in.

00:23:30:15 - 00:23:30:28
Sara
Yeah.

00:23:31:00 - 00:23:52:15
Lisa
I'm here. I know the lesson is there. I might just not have access to it yet, but I have to live from the place and this is my choice. This is what it looks like to step into personal responsibility is that everything is happening in my favor. Everything is working out, even when it feels like it isn't working out.

00:23:52:17 - 00:23:53:07
Sara
Yeah.

00:23:53:10 - 00:24:01:24
Lisa
And I can expect the best. And now the place that I'm wanting to work from is it gets better and better every day.

00:24:01:26 - 00:24:02:21
Sara
Mm.

00:24:02:24 - 00:24:21:29
Lisa
Every day it gets better and better because I have my own things that I have to combat the parts of me that are like, be on guard. So that's where I'm working from. So again, where we hold our attention is what we're going to create more of in our life. The more I tolerate the negative thoughts.

00:24:22:01 - 00:24:26:20
Sara
Yeah, as the train about to go past. Oh, that's okay.

00:24:26:22 - 00:24:52:11
Lisa
The more that I tolerate now not loops. Oh, it actually concerns you. That's okay. I've done an episode before where I was grilling chicken and there were trains going by in the background, but we just keep it real here. Yeah. So what I was saying is, wherever you're holding your attention, you're going to get more of. So it's really important that you step into being responsible for is this thought pattern is holding my attention on like the worst is about to happen.

00:24:52:13 - 00:25:06:12
Lisa
Is that helping me create what I want in my life, or is it pulling me away from what I want to create? Is it supporting me feeling the way I want to feel, which I've never had a client come to me and say, I want to feel more anxious on a day to day. Please help me with that.

00:25:06:14 - 00:25:16:12
Lisa
Or is it moving me away from how I want to feel? Because I've known for a long time you want more peace and ease in your life. You want more joy to be able to come in?

00:25:16:14 - 00:25:55:07
Sara
Yeah, I think that shift from. Yeah, continuing to embody that. I'm okay. Like I am doing that and I'll keep doing that and then use that step to anticipating the beast and the idea of even if I don't have access to the listen, the lessons there and I might not just be able to see it, I think those two things feel like they would bring a sense of peace, even if things don't always feel particularly peaceful.

00:25:55:09 - 00:25:56:05
Sara
Right.

00:25:56:07 - 00:26:08:10
Lisa
And just taking that moment when you're sitting outside or even when you wake up in the morning, just a quick moment of like, what would the perfect day look like if I ran it through my head quickly.

00:26:08:12 - 00:26:09:00
Sara
Mm.

00:26:09:03 - 00:26:14:17
Lisa
And allow yourself to see that and then you get to expect that.

00:26:14:19 - 00:26:18:13
Sara
Yeah.

00:26:18:15 - 00:26:33:11
Lisa
But the thing I want you to walk away with and I want everybody listening to know, is that you will be okay in your life when you decide you're going to be okay. And the irony is, as so many of the women and men that I work with.

00:26:33:13 - 00:26:33:18
Sara
My.

00:26:33:18 - 00:26:58:03
Lisa
Clients are all survivors. They've always landed on their feet, right? Like I joke and say, like, if this ship was sinking, you want my client, my clients would organize the rescue boats and make sure everybody was off the ship. Yet they're the same people exactly like you, Sarah, that at the end of the day, fundamental Lee are afraid they're not going to be okay if something happens.

00:26:58:05 - 00:27:17:23
Lisa
Yet you have all the evidence in the world over and over and over and over again that you always are okay, that you always figure it out, you always land on your feet and that everything is always working out for you.

00:27:17:26 - 00:27:19:27
Sara
It feels nice.

00:27:20:00 - 00:27:21:25
Lisa
And see, there's the exhale.

00:27:21:27 - 00:27:23:12
Sara
Yeah.

00:27:23:14 - 00:27:48:23
Lisa
Right. Because when you're holding your breath, that's in anticipation of something's happening and embracing like your body is physically bracing itself against impact. So even that spring to breathe every day, like pausing just for a second and saying, can I take a deep breath in and breathe out and just drop into my body and just starting to be mindful, like bring awareness to your breath.

00:27:48:26 - 00:27:50:15
Sara
Yeah.

00:27:50:17 - 00:28:07:26
Lisa
Right. And you may want to explore some very specific breathwork patterns to help relax your nervous system. And there's lots of them out there. You can probably just go on to chat up and say Breathwork patterns to settle my nervous system. Right? There's box breathing, there's 3 to 1.

00:28:07:29 - 00:28:08:06
Sara
There's a.

00:28:08:06 - 00:28:33:28
Lisa
Whole bunch. But find the one that that helped you get back into your body and signals to your body that it's safe, right? So, yeah, inhale. And a slow exhale that signals to your body. It's safe for us to be in the parasympathetic, parasympathetic nervous system, Rest and digest. Right. Always have to check on like Tim is sympathetic is like you're running away, right?

00:28:33:28 - 00:28:40:27
Lisa
So fast breathing because you're running away. When you have a slow exhale, it signals to your body we're safe.

00:28:41:00 - 00:28:41:17
Sara
Because you.

00:28:41:20 - 00:28:45:14
Lisa
Run away from something and breathe out slowly.

00:28:45:16 - 00:29:06:17
Sara
And yeah, I do do quite a bit of that. And, you know, and there's definitely other times where I'm less aware of it, which makes sense because those are the times where I go up into my head. And so then I set breath holding. Yeah.

00:29:06:20 - 00:29:10:19
Lisa
So you've now just written yourself a step by step process.

00:29:10:21 - 00:29:10:26
Sara
Of.

00:29:10:26 - 00:29:30:11
Lisa
How to overcome your anxiety and shift yourself into a place of anticipating the best or at the very minimum, right now, shift yourself to a place of I'm going to be okay. Okay, okay. Whatever is on the other side of this, I am fine. I've got my own back. How does that feel?

00:29:30:14 - 00:29:34:03
Sara
Yeah, Good. Good. Very good.

00:29:34:05 - 00:29:35:08
Lisa
Excellent.

00:29:35:10 - 00:29:36:07
Sara
All right, well, we'll.

00:29:36:07 - 00:29:52:23
Lisa
Leave it there, then. You can exhale. You take it for everybody listening that they take value from this as well, because you are not the only one who struggles with stuff like this. So it's a pattern that I see over and over again. So I'm glad that you got what you wanted.

00:29:52:25 - 00:30:14:00
Sara
And what you want from this. Yeah. Yeah. It's I feel like it's a really nice moving from that catastrophizing to kind of a neutral point of I'm going to be okay to actually I can anticipate the best and I'm, I'm worthy of receiving the best that comes to me. That's like I think it was lovely.

00:30:14:05 - 00:30:16:21
Lisa
Absolutely. Well, thanks for joining me, Sarah.

00:30:16:23 - 00:30:18:03
Sara
Yeah, thank you.
